Be The Change

Sisterhood is committed to being the change in our local community and beyond. We want to see every cry for help as an opportunity to serve. In each month of 2010, we're drawing focus to a social justice initiative:

January & February: A21

March & April: Vision Rescue

May & June: Homeless in our City

July & August: Elderly

September & October: Angel Tree

November & December: Christmas Giving

We would love for you to be involved in making a difference, there's more information below about how we work practically with local initiatives, or take a look at our Sisterhood Calendar to see what's happening in your area this month.

The Colour Sisterhood

The Colour Sisterhood is emerging as a powerful story of unity and alliance. By definition sisterhood is "empathy that one woman (or one company of women) might feel for another". The Colour Sisterhood represents a company of down to earth, everyday women who desire to make a difference and make the world a better place - in essence it is a foundation seeking to "place value upon humanity".

The Sisterhood seeks to champion the cause of the orphan child and widow, to come alongside women (near and far) who are facing challenges, and it ultimately seeks to influence nations with the goodness and answers that are to be found in God.

The invitation is not exclusive and is open to any willing heart seeking to bring solution to today's many injustices.

The Knitting Sisterhood

We are involved in two projects: knitting scarves for the girls rescued from human trafficking through A21; and knitting baby blankets for hospitals to give to mothers to keep in memory of their stillborn baby. We have created 'knitted with love' labels that can be sewn on to each piece of knitting.

We have organisations that we are partnering with to provide the following:

Headbands: Headbands: To be given to a youth hostel for young women.

Blankets: For precious, still-born babies.

Scarves: As part of a pack given to girls rescued from human trafficking

If you have knitted any of the above, or have simply knitted a square, you can send your knitting in to us. We have beautiful “Made with Love” labels that we'll be sewing onto your knitting to send off to one of these causes.

You can bring your knitting into Church on Sunday and hand it in at the ‘Sisterhood Zone’ in the upstairs foyer, or you can mail your knitting in to:

Hillsong Church, PO Box 29971, London SW6 2WX

For information about The Knitting Sisterhood and patterns for these projects and more, check out The Knitting Sisterhood.

Prayer

Pray on a Monday with Sisterhood girls all around the globe aligning our hearts together as a powerful force of concerned women and as we agree and proclaim His will, His Word and His heart over the needs, to see justice prevail and spiritual break- through.

Pray for A21 on the 21st of the month.

Serving the Elderly

We have made a commitment to care for the elderly of our communities through befriending programmes and projects, helping to host social activities and praying for their needs.

If you're interested in volunteering with the elderly, please contact Kalleigh Mikkelson.

SHINE Programme

A programme aimed at helping girls and women develop an understanding of their own self worth, strength and purpose. We run Shine Girl in schools and Shine Woman in community centres and hostels. Are you free during the day? We run ShineGIRL in schools across London and are looking for volunteers flexible with their time. In 2010 we are starting ShineWOMAN in youth hostels & community centres in the evenings and on Saturdays. If you are interested in being part of the team, contact Lucianna Russo on 075 1579 6638, or chat to one of the girls on the Sisterhood zone in the upstairs foyer at Church on Sunday.

Women in Prisons

We have the opportunity to serve in local prisons with a programme run by Prison Fellowship. We are also making a commitment to pray for the many needs of these prisons. If you are passionate about getting involved and reaching these women and assisting in some of the projects that we will be taking apart in, contact Kalleigh Mikkelson above.
